My paper recently did a preview on the upcoming racing season at the local horse park in Boise and I got this shot of a trainer doing laps with his horse. It's not really anything that would ever run in the paper, but I thought it'd be good to post on here...

Caught in Action

I just got this shot from a friend from a competing newspaper and thought it was funny enough to share. We happened to both be covering the last day of skiing at the local ski hill and she caught me in the act of picture taking.

Two new for you...

I always think it's interesting when people from your past reemerge somewhat unexpectedly.

On Saturday night I covered a NBA Development League game between the Idaho Stampede and the Iowa Energy. It shouldn't seem surprising but little did I know there were a few Iowa all-star basketball players on the Energy roster, all of which I had run into in the past.

First was a former Cyclone, Curtis Stinson, whose picture I had taken on multiple occasions while working at the Iowa State Daily. Playing alongside Stinson were former University of Iowa ballers Adam Haluska, Jeff Horner and Doug Thomas. I had seen Horner play years ago when he played for an Iowa high school which often tipped off against mine. Haluska, who as some of you may know, once played for Iowa State before transferring to the University of Iowa for reasons unknown to me.


On Sunday I went up to the local ski hill which was ending its season with an end of the year "Beach Party". It was a pretty fun time, although it would have been more fun to be skiing than to be watching people ski. Here are a couple shots from my afternoon.

Daily Grind

Yesterday I returned back to work after a pair of excruciatingly boring days off. I hate to say it, but I was pretty relieved to get back to work. Late in the afternoon I shot a softball game at Skyview High. This shot was from when a pair of defenders collided as they converged on an infield fly.


After that I headed back down to Boise to cover a ECHL playoff game between the defending Kelly Cup Champions, The Idaho Steelheads, and their opponents from last years ECHL finals, The Alaska Aces. I wanted to do something a little different so I decided to shoot from the catwalk. Scary stuff, but it was definitely different. Unfortunately I didn't get the shot I was really hoping for but oh well.

Something Strange

Yesterday I had an assignment which required that I follow up on the recent death of a museum proprietor outside the rural Idaho city of Melba. Upon arrival, I was simply amazed by the unique complexity of this particular museum. Unlike most, this particular museum displayed its collection of interesting items outdoors along a walking trail, which wandered through a marshy riparian area for about a mile.

There were many, and I mean MANY, truly bizarre items including, yet not limited to: bronze statues of the American "founding fathers", an "Enchanted Forest" which had dozens of garden gnomes and well over 100 inspirational placards dawning phrases such as "Laugh often", "Love Nature" and "Laughing is Carbonated Love". Strange I know.

Now you are probably asking yourself "and why is this being considered news?" I asked myself the same question and came up with the answer that it's really not. Just an interesting thing to send a reporter and photographer out to do on a slow news Sunday afternoon.
